Portrane, the Brook Beach

Portrane the Brook Beach is a gently sloping sandy beach, on the seaward side of the Portrane Peninsula. Brook beach expands north to become the Burrow beach where sandy dunes are located. There are strong currents located on the north end of the beach. Portrane, the Brook Beach is classified as achieving Sufficient Water Quality in 2024, based on the assessment of bacteriological results for the period 2021 to 2024. Portrane, the Brook Beach achieved a Good Water Quality rating in 2023, an Excellent Water Quality rating in 2022 and a Good Water Quality rating in 2021. Annual water quality ratings are generally calculated using monitoring results over a four-year period and are assessed against stringent bacterial limits to protect bather health.
