Castlegregory

Beach & coast Kerry

Checked July 2026

Castlegregory Beach is located on the northern side of the Dingle Peninsula in County Kerry, in the South West of Ireland. Castlegregory Beach is a sandy beach, facing north-east into Tralee Bay. It is largely sheltered from severe wave activity and from the prevailing winds, which tend to be south westerly, by virtue of its orientation and the fact that the Maharees Peninsula (which extends into Tralee Bay) is situated to the north. The strand is popular with bathers and walkers. Public car-parking and public conveniences (bathing season only) are provided immediately adjacent to the bathing area. Castlegregory is classified as achieving Excellent Water Quality in 2024 based on the assessment of bacteriological results for the period 2021 to 2024. Castlegregory has achieved an Excellent Water Quality rating for the four consecutive years 2021 to 2024. Annual water quality ratings are generally calculated using monitoring results over a four-year period and are assessed against stringent bacterial limits to protect bather health.
