White Strand beach is a relatively small sandy beach at the end of a narrow rock-flanked bay. Due to the presence of offshore reefs the force of wave action is greatly reduced once they reach the shoreline. There is a variety of marine wildlife including fish and shellfish and also a variety of marine vegetation. Motorised watercraft, surfing and the use of canoes and kayaks are prohibited in close proximity to swimmers. Beach bye-laws are in place with horse riding and dogs prohibited between 11am and 6pm during the summer season. White Strand, Miltown Malbay is classified as achieving Excellent Water Quality in 2024 based on the assessment of bacteriological results for the period 2021 to 2024. White Strand, Miltown Malbay has achieved an Excellent Water Quality rating for the four consecutive years 2021 to 2024. Annual water quality ratings are generally calculated using monitoring results over a four-year period and are assessed against stringent bacterial limits to protect bather health.
