Loughrea Lake Bathing area is pleasantly situated in a shallow relatively sandy area of the lake between a man made pier on the west and a small beach on the eastern end. Surrounding the bathing area is amenity grounds composed of grassy areas, footpaths, planted trees and shrubs and flower beds. The Lake supports a variety of bird species. The lake is a designated Special Protection Area and Natural Heritage Area. Activities include swimming, sailing, windsurfing, angling and canoeing. Loughrea Lake is classified as achieving Excellent Water Quality in 2024 based on the assessment of bacteriological results for the period 2021 to 2024. Loughrea Lake has achieved an Excellent Water Quality rating for the four consecutive years 2021 to 2024. Annual water quality ratings are generally calculated using monitoring results over a four-year period and are assessed against stringent bacterial limits to protect bather health. Lifeguard: Yes 12-6 7 days July & Aug weekend June/Sept Dogs: No dogs allowed on designated blue flag beaches during lifeguard hours. Dogs allowed on a lead at all other times.
