Glansheskin - Kilworth Forest Walk

The main feature of this wood is the Douglas River that flows down the wooded Glen through the property. It links up with the Araglin River closeby and the two tributaries feed into the mighty Blackwater that journeys forth to the sea at Youghal Bridge. This section of river is known for its populations of otter, salmon, Brown trout, Brook and River lamprey, all of which are important in terms of conservation status. Many local children have grown up paddling in river that runs beside the green in the main car park and picnic area in Glansheskin. It is a wonderful outdoor classroom and is enjoyed by all age groups. Walk: A section of the Blackwater Avondhu passes through Glanshaskin. It is 94 km in total and goes from Clogheen in the Knockmealdown mountains to Bweeng, south of Mallow. Explore nature: Glansheskin is an ‘old’ woodland and has a rich field and shrub layer for the botanists and the nature lovers, along with an assortment of the usual but very important woodland animals.
